Summer in Canada

Lac Monroe, Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada
You're on vacation right?

The hot, lazy days of summer have taken hold of you.
The gear is always wet. It doesn't get any time off. Rolling practice and balance bracing means even more wet gear, and wavy, curly hair that is always tangled. You're already dreaming of a dry suit for fall.
Back at camp and at home, people, including yourself exclaim, "There's wet gear strewn everywhere!" You don't want to see pics of that beautiful mess, right?!

It doesn't bother the neighbors at all.
Yep! You're a paddler.

Enjoy the best of summer . . . doing the stuff you love best!

  1. Wow - your opening shot with the boat pointing diagonally towards the mountains is awesome! Those Maalstroms sure are pretty boats. I took the Vaag out for a spin in Castine the other day - it moves really well and looks very sharp. I could use a bit more room for my feet though :)

  2. Thanks. When I saw the shot, I stopped everything else I had planned and thought, "I really should share this picture. It really captures how I felt about the day!"

I hear you about foot room. It's a problem with low volume boats. Maelstrom kayaks are so beautiful. Your bright yellow and blue Vaag is a show stopper.

Did you hear that Maelstrom isn't making the Vital or Vaag any more. They have two new models out - probably just modified Vitals and Vaags with new names.

    Cheers from Canada!

  3. P.S. To keep the boat from drifting off for the shot, I had to put a rock on the off side to keep it where I wanted it. Hope that isn't cheating!

    1. Hi Joe, my friends just got back from their trip to the east coast and tell me they had a great time touring with you! Maine is a great place to paddle. I hope to get out there again soon. I love Maine!

Yes, thanks. I've heard about paddlingplanet.com.

      Cheers from Canada.

  5. It's not cheating if it helps you get the shot!

I'd heard that Maelstrom wasn't making the Vital or the Vaag anymore...I went to their website to check out the new designs but it looked like all they had was computer models - no real pictures. I couldn't really get a sense of them from that. With Boreal Design going out of business, I wasn't sure where that left Maelstrom - and I'm still not sure how they are going to do without a manufacturing partner. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  6. On the other side of the world (Downunder) is not exactly summer (even tho air temps are still a reasonable 22C). The advantage you have paddling on lakes is that there is no need to rinse your gear in fresh water afterwards.

  7. Yes, I love that, and no tides or fish with big teeth and pointy fins that bite in a lake. But the ocean is a bit more exciting! And our lakes freeze in winter.
